Pep Guardiola’s 2021-22 Manchester City may not have been the most star-studded squad, but their tactical brilliance and mental fortitude were unparalleled. Despite lacking a traditional striker, City’s collective attacking play, featuring Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Phil Foden, was enough to see them to the Premier League title. Their mental resilience was tested by a surging Liverpool, but City ultimately secured the title with a dramatic final-day win. While their European dreams were dashed in the Champions League, the team’s domestic triumph, including a 19-point margin of victory, was a testament to their excellence.

7. Chelsea 2004-05

Under José Mourinho, Chelsea entered a new era of dominance. The Portuguese manager’s first season at Stamford Bridge was nothing short of spectacular, as Chelsea clinched the Premier League title with a record-breaking 95 points. While their attacking play was solid, with stars like Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba, it was their defense that truly set them apart. Conceding just 15 goals in the entire campaign, Chelsea boasted one of the greatest defensive records in English football history. With players like John Terry, Petr Čech, and Claude Makélélé, Chelsea’s defensive solidity was the foundation of their success.

With a formidable backline featuring Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, and a lethal attacking trio of Salah, Mané, and Firmino, Liverpool were simply unstoppable. Despite the season being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted the momentum, Liverpool’s dominant campaign marked a new era of success for the club.

5. Manchester United 2007-08

Sir Alex Ferguson’s 2007-08 United side combined attacking flair with defensive stability. With Cristiano Ronaldo in the form of his life, scoring 42 goals, and a solid core of players like Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, and Michael Carrick, United clinched the Premier League and Champions League in a thrilling season. The final day of the league season saw United snatch the title from Arsenal in dramatic fashion, and their Champions League victory in Barcelona, with two injury-time goals in the final, is the stuff of legends. With a team full of world-class players like Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, and Peter Schmeichel, Manchester United’s treble remains legendary.

  1. Manchester City 2022-23 (The Treble Winners)

Manchester City’s 2023 treble-winning season under Pep Guardiola was a historic achievement, completing a remarkable journey that solidified their place among the greatest teams in Premier League history. After securing the Premier League title in dramatic fashion, City added both the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League to their trophy cabinet, achieving the coveted treble for the first time in the club’s history.

Key to City’s success was the sublime form of Erling Haaland, who set new records for goals in a Premier League season, while Kevin De Bruyne, Ilkay Gündogan, and Bernardo Silva provided creativity and clutch performances across competitions. Guardiola’s tactical genius, blending a high-possession style with devastating counter-attacks, made City a force that no team could withstand.

What makes the premier League so special?

“The Premier League is one of the most difficult in the world. There’s five, six, or seven clubs that can be the champions. Only one can win, and all the others are disappointed and live in the middle of disaster.”
